Jemaa el Fna is one of the most incredible things to do in Marrakesh and it’s not easy to miss. The labyrinth of alleys that make up the medina all point towards the square. In the nearby souks, craftsmen sell their wares from makeshift stalls. Dates, figs, almonds and walnuts are piled high on carts.. Jemaa el-Fnaa is Marrakech’s main square and located in the medina. It is definitely worth exploring for the sights, sounds and smells. There’s an energy/vibe/buzz that’s quite brilliant. It’s best to go with a guide or a local, failing that, I’d recommend that you just walk through observing and minimizing interactions.

Djemaa El Fna has been a protected urban landmark since 1922 and Unesco-inscribed since 2001 as a place of unique cultural exchange. Yet Unesco has flagged the square as a space under “serious threat” from urbanization and cultural assimilation. For centuries, Djemaa has been a stage for gnaoua dance troupes, whispering fortune tellers.. The Essential Guide To Jemaa El-Fnaa Market, Marrakech. It’s the bustling hub of activity in Marrakech — an attraction for both locals within Marrakech and across Morocco as well as foreign visitors. It’s a place where there’s something to see and do from morning to night. By day, snake charmers and henna ladies dot the square and scout.
